It's Time to Step Up
Never have I been as politically invested as in this current presidential cycle. Mayor Pete Buttigieg captured my imagination a year ago as he set up his exploratory committee for a presidential run and began his media campaign to build awareness for his brand [boot-edge-edge]. The more I heard from him the more he stood out as a raw political talent whose positions and policies aligned with my world view.
I flew out to South Bend, IN on April 14th 2019 to witness history as Mayor Pete announced his candidacy for President of the United States. With frozen feet and hands, was my warmed heart and my support for Pete was solidified. I started collecting emails for his campaign in and around Bucks County over the summer and fall and even got to meet him in-person last October in Philadelphia.
In December, I had the privilege of hosting a fundraiser which featured Pete for America campaign manager, Mike Schmuhl. Soon after, I was selected to be a delegate candidate representing PA-1 Bucks and Montgomery. I collected signatures to put Mayor Pete on the PA primary ballot and tomorrow, my 250 required petition signatures are being delivered to Harrisburg. I anticipate being on the PA ballot with voting to take place via absentee ballot ahead of the April 28th 2020 primary date.
While my upfront pledge is for Mayor Pete and I would support him all the way, I am also a pragmatist and realize that the nomination process, can be messy, just as our current democracy happens to be. #VoteBlueNoMatterWho is my guiding principle when all is said and done. And that there be a #BlueWave to boot.
Although I am a political neophyte, I am moved to engage in the political process and to bring our nation back to the right side of history. It is time for me to step up.
